Scarpa Delta Boots 3 year review

The years of wear

This is my third review of these boots. I’ve now had them almost three years so you can’t say I haven’t given them a good try out. I reviewed them after a few weeks of use and then after a year. If you are thinking of buying a pair it’s worth knowing the sort of wear I have subjected them to so you decide if they are right for you.

I live in the Highlands of Scotland and I am out in the hills at least once a week and often for multiple days. (Prior to lockdown that is.)  I tend to explore the remoter parts of the Highlands so I am frequently walking through bogs, mostly off paths or on rocky tracks. I hate road walking so these boots haven’t done much of that.  I’d say I am probably out in these boots more than the average walker and on rougher terrain than you are likely to encounter in the Lake District for example.  I’ve not used them in snow very much as I have a pair of Scarpa Mantas I use in the winter.

So how these boots have performed?

Durability

The boots are substantially still intact.  There have been no problems with the stitching or the sole adhesion to the boots.  I’m still using the original laces.  No problems there.

Comfort

These boots were comfortable from the off and are still as comfortable as they were the first day I wore them. Never had  problem with blisters with them although I rarely suffer with blisters.  A very comfortable boot.

Water repellence

For the first year these were the most waterproof boots I’ve ever had. They were so waterproof I found it difficult to apply proofing as it just rolled off.  This gradually diminished and by year two I was proofing the boots regularly but still keeping my feet dry.  Now in their third year I am finding that my feet are getting damp (but not wet) despite regular proofing.

Sole performance

I’ve had great grip with these boots.  The soles are now showing wear and the grip is not as good as it was although I’m not slipping in them .   I think that’s a pretty good performance considering the wear they have had.  No complaints.

Overall rating

Considering the wear I have given these boots I am very happy with them.  I am thinking of replacing them now as they don’t seem to be able to keep my feet dry anymore.  I think that three years fairly heavy use is a very good performance from these boots.

I will buy them again.
