I’ve sent off for a book on how to draw cartoons, badly needed as you can see.

From the Highlands of Scotland, climbers, hikers and nature lovers talk about their experiences in the wild

Peter Silburn: The Norwich Cycling Campaign | Podcast
byJohn D Burns

I recently Interviewed David Barter about his book Great Scottish Bike Rides and it occurred to me that the vast majority of cycling doesn’t take place on adventurous roads in the remote Highlands, it takes place in our urban jungles. As a cyclist myself, I know just how challenging it can be to cycle to the local shops. (I recently fell off my bike in the Co-Op car park. It was my fault.) I thought it would be good to talk to people who are trying to make these short journeys many of us make, safer and easier.

In this podcast I travel to Norwich to talk to Peter Silburn about the Norwich Cycling Campaign. Peter is chair of the Norwich Cycling Campaign, a small voluntary group which campaigns for more and better cycling infrastructure in Norwich and the surrounding area, to enable more people to choose cycling as a means of getting about.

Peter Silburn

Any sort of campaigning is equal parts intensely frustrating and deeply rewarding, and it can take a long time before your efforts bear fruit. One way to keep motivated on the long haul is to celebrate small wins.

“We’re campaigning for a high-quality network of cycle routes across the Norwich region, but that’s no reason not to celebrate getting a dropped kerb installed or some vegetation cut back on a cycle path.”

Peter believes passionately in the role that the humble bicycle can play in building a better society. The benefits are many and varied: better for your health, reduced air and noise pollution, reduced traffic congestion, fewer deaths and injuries on our roads and reduced cost of transport in a cost of living crisis to name a few.
